A Bowen man is believed to be the first Queenslander to die from the mosquito-borne infection since 2022.

Queensland has recorded its first probable death from the mosquito-borne Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) since 2022.
Mackay Hospital and Health Services said a man from Bowen was being treated at Mackay Base Hospital last week, but later died.
